Google #Sidewiki - Edit Any Website?

The new toolbar from Google has the Sidewiki option. It enables anyone who has logged-in with a Google account to write comment, which is visible to everyone.

Google Sidewiki
I feel, we can use this place to showcase news, achievements, products and services if any, or it can be used as a user feedback box (If nothing is there, pay someone to praise about you in Google's Sidewiki, just kidding...)

Few features:

- The owner of the page can write a comment which can be kept floating on-top always. Can be edited for any new update too.

- Simultaneously publish it in your blog.

- All the Sidewiki entry will reflect in your Google Profile

- You can even share it in Facebook and Twitter or email it instantly to your friends about your Sidewiki entry.

- You can always rate others Sidewiki entry.

- Any plan to integrate with Google Wave? whenever a link is shared via Google Wave the Sidewiki list will pop-up with the entry list. Cool feature, isn't?

Many more cool features to come... stay tuned!

Google Snippet - Breadcrumb View to URL?

Is Google trying to display the breadcrumbs as part of Google SERP snippet? Check the below image, highlighted in red box.

I liked it. What's your opinion?

But, how do I update my website's display URL, as of now, there is no option available in webmaster tool too? or will it be enabled only for trusted domains?

End of “Did you mean:” Suggest from Google?

The experimental feature of Google's search "Google Suggest" is now the default search page. But, will this end "Did you mean:" page?

Google Suggest will help user to input the search queries correctly. This might stop Google from showing the "Did you mean:" page.

Download and install the all new Google toolbar for IE. Check this video explaining some of the important stuffs.

Download the new toolbar for IE at:

http://toolbar.google.com/T5/intl/en/

#2: Gmail New Version with 37 Languages

Gmail is coming up with more cool features like,

Bookmarking individual emails

37 languages

Enhanced contact manger

Cool emotions

And many more...

Wait for it @ www.gmail.com

#3: Google Reader Shortcut

I know most of the webmaster use Google reader to update themselves through many websites. But most of them don’t know that there are many shortcuts to use the Google reader effectively through the keyboard. If you are a expert in using computers, they you will not prefer to use mouse for most of the time, so why are you waiting for, just open your Google reader and type “?” without quotes. You will get the complete list of shortcuts for Google reader. Type “?” and learn more!

#4: Google Apps for Team

What is this? Google Apps is already used by many small enterprises! So what’s new in it?

The answer is: to use Google Apps (regular version), you need to verify that you are the webmaster/owner for the website for which you are configuring. But Google apps for team is different, here you no need to verify your website, instead you verify your corporate email address and add your corporate friends, then you can use all the services like, Google docs, calendar and other cool stuffs including GTalk. Don’t wait, just login and sign-up. To use the Gmail service, you need to change the mx-record in the server.

#5: Google Local News

This is a perfect update. Throw the hardcopies, go with softcopies. If you want to know news about your local area, just type your City, Sate or Zip code. It is beautifully working for my local place. Try yours. The news updates are very frequent and for that reason you the very recent news.

#6: Google and Nokia

Search engine giant and Mobile giant have joined their hands! This is really interesting and trouble for their competitors in both the search engine and mobile industry. Nokia has announced that in all the new product releases, Google search will be integrated. So Nokia mobile user can now enjoy the benefits from Google. In the other end, yahoo and t-mobiles have teamed up and decided to release mobiles with yahoo search enabled by default.

So, competition is picking up, let’s wait for the result!

I have a doubt, Android is on the way to market, this will massively affect Nokia market. But this partnership is going to work? Any comments!

#7: Google Local Search Update

Previously when you search for any local place in Google like “hotels in London”, you will get 3 local results on the top of the page, but now they displaying 10 results with a map image marking all the locations. This is really cool! Take a look at it now:

#8: Google Logo

Last but not least, as usual, Google has released their logo for Valentine’s Day, check out this cool stuff.

Valentine’s Day

Also, Google has posted a competition. Check it out here:

Other interesting updates:

#1: Link Diagnosis Tool

Check this cool new tool which works perfectly in Firefox browser and partially work in other browser. You can extract a huge report on the linking structure of your website with other useful information.

Before you start, download and install the Firefox plug-in.

Try it now!

#2: Google Crawling Tool

Do Google crawl your website frequently? Do you want to monitor it? Check this tool and get more benefit out of it. You can even put the crawling graph in your website to showcase it your visitors.

Enter your URL and start monitoring.

#3: CSS Update

This is something cool, but not SEO related.

Check this website; you can actually hide an image behind text. I tried and it is working fine. Playing with CSS3. Works only with Firefox and Safari web browsers!

#4: The Future of Mobile

Check this, stuff!

See-through, Click-Find, and know more!

This will be our future mantra. So confused? Check this, you will understand.

#5: Image Matching Search Engine - Lincoln

The search engines which we have right-now will search for text that we type in the text box. Have you ever wondered about a search engine where it can get an image as an input and display results (both image and website) related to that image. I thought about it and now it is live.

Microsoft is testing their beta version of the search engine. Check it. It will work only in IE6+

#6: Google Android Pictures

Checkout some pictures of Google android.

This is not yet released; it is still in testing phase.

Embed Slide-shows in Website, like Google Videos

From the beginning of New Year, Google started to launch new ideas. As the very first step, they have launched the embedded option for the slides we create through Google Docs (Google Presentation). From now, you can put all your details as a beautiful slide-show and present it to your website viewers. Take a look at my “Welcome 2008” slide :)

I have a question!

Is the content included inside the presentation index-able by search engines (especially by Google Bot)? Let’s wait for the Google experts' reply!

Webmaster Tool Update

Google has updated the webmaster tool. Please take a look at the below screen-shot,

webmaster_tool_content_analysis

Under "Diagnostics" menu, they have added a new sub-menu, "Content Analysis". In this section they track all the issues in the website related to title, meta tags and non-indexable content.

The tool helps to do a proper on-page optimization for the websites. It analyses title and meta tags and generate a report for all repeated, short and missing tags. Also, it analysis the website content and display the reason for non-indexable content. Using these reports we can fix the SEO tags and content for the website.

Sing-in to get the benefits from Google Webmaster Tool. Still the developers were working on this tool and they will add more cool stuff in the coming year, 2008. Check the webmaster tool frequently to get the update.

Also there is an update in Google Analytics (this is again a free tool from Google where you can measure your website’s traffic for free). Now, we can compare results which will be displayed as a graph. For example, you can compare "Page Views" with "Traffic (Visits)" and generate a graph to analysis it. Login to get the updates! Note: This is still in beta testing mode and will be live very soon.

Google Webmaster Tool - Crawl Rate Update

This is one of the best tools from Google; using this tool we can track some of the website's activities like, "top queries", "crawling rate", "index details", "links details" and much more.

These facilities are available from the day they launched this tool, but what is actually new in this? Before I explain, take a look at below screenshot of my Google’s Webmaster Tool admin page.

Under "Tools" menu we have an option "Set Crawl Rate", here you can actually see the Google bots activity. It will show you two main things,

1. Googlebot activity in the last 90 days
2. Your current speed

1. The activity report they will show the details of, number of pages crawled, number of kilobytes downloaded and time spent downloading a page.

The Update Is:

2. In the speed section, you will actually have three options to select your website's crawl rate by Googlebot. Usually, the "Faster" option will be in disabled mode and no one can activate it, unless if Google feels that the crawl rate is very low for your website, they will automatically enable it as shown above. The faster crawl rate will automatically expire after 90 days from the day it was activated.

In the screenshot you can actually see the note from Google, stated just below "Faster".

Does anyone experience the same situation? Please comment.

Google Acquires Jaiku - Activity and Presence Sharing Website

One more acquisition from Google, Jaiku, it is an activity and presence sharing website which works on both mobile and web. People can easily find and interact with their friends’ no-matter where they are, they can easily reach them either through mobile or through website. They provide a widget for mobiles through which they can easily interact with their friends. Also there is a mobile version of the website, through which we can share with our friends. This is also called, micro-blogging website.

Currently Jaiku is not open to register for a new account, click here to send a request to the administrator for a Jaiku invitation code.

There is a huge plan from Google with the recent acquisition and you can see the result before this Christmas. I will not let the secret out. ;)

Three Recent Update from Google

In this post I wanted to discuss about the following update from Google,

1. Google Trends Update

2. Google Bookmarks Sharing

3. Google to buy Double Click

Let me start,

1. Google Trends Update:

As per the previous update from Google Trends, it was updated only once in a month and now they wanted to give more comfortable and relevant details to the public, so they have started to update the Google Trends DAILY. Yes, this is one of the best update from Google this month. This will definitely help most of the webmasters to know about the keywords activity. Check yourself here about the update happening in Google Trends.

2. Google Bookmarks Sharing:

Google started to enter the Social Media Network, as a result, they have introduced a new concept like Digg and Delicious, where we can post and share our bookmarks live and share with others without login. Checkout my sharing page, but for now I haven't added any stuff to it :)

3. Google to Buy Double Click:

Double Click is a website which is similar to Google AdWords. Google is in the process of buying this company and they are waiting for a legal approval from European Union Commission. Hope they will get a positive response from them and acquire this as soon as possible.

Hope there will be a huge update on GMail, wait for the update to be published on my blog.

Good Docs with Google Presentation

The hottest news as of today is the release of Google’s Presentation. It was said sometime before that Google will get all the office products online and it is true, it is happening now. Those who use Google Docs and Spread Sheet please login to your account and check for this wonderful update now. Don’t worry even if you don’t have a login, just sign-up here.

Now you have all of your big office application online, no need to carry any CD or other material with you when you go for a presentation, also it is not required that you need to arrange for a meeting to show your presentation. Do you think how? Very simple, just create a presentation in Google docs and add members to that presentation and just show them slide-by-slide and explain what you are trying to say.

So what are the other benefits...?

Instead of my answer for this question, just take a look at the below video from Google,

All the 3 major office products are online, I can’t guess what would be Google next product? Any idea? Fingers crossed, and waiting for Google to reply...

Web 3.0 Definitions from Google Eric

I was doing a little research on the new topic that was discussed widely in many forums and blogs. Yes it is Web 3.0.

What is Web 3.0, is that an extension of Web 2.0? Or is that something new… this new topic confused everybody and no one is having a clear idea about it. But Google’s Eric is able to give a definition for this new term. Take a look at the video of Eric from Google; he is explaining what Web 3.0 is, and how it may work in the future also how it will spread. Look it is quite interesting and may cause a new evolution in the internet world. Let us always hope for the best. Watch the video and get some good information.

Google Toolbar for Opera

I heard news that Google is creating a toolbar for Opera Internet Browser. Is that true? Some of them are telling that it is a rumour and some of them are telling that is true. Can any one from Google reply to this question? After hearing this news I installed opera and there is no toolbar available for it, so I am not comfortable with it, because I need to see PR and other features like bookmarks, etc. Hope I will get a reply from Google soon, but we can install only the Google search bar in Opera.

Google Analytics Update

Google has started to update Google Analytics (a free online tool from Google to measure the website traffic for free). As a beginning, they did changes in look of the report displayed and now they have started to tweak all the inner report modules.

They have stared with the "Map Overlay". Previously in the first step, they show only the main continents and after when you zoom into the places, you can get the exact count from each place. Now in the very first step of "Map Overlay", they have added most of the big cities and countries. Just mouse-over it and you can get the exact traffic details from that place (state/country/continent).

Take a look at the below image,

Meta Tag from Google

What are Meta tags?

These are the tags that will be available in the head section of the website. This mainly helps the search engines to find what kind of website is this and much other useful information is inserted into it.

New Meta From Google:

Now you can inform Google about a expiry data of a page. The new meta tag is “unavailable_after”. This information is not released officially and we are waiting for it.

Using this meta tag, you can tell the search engines from which date they should stop crawling the page. Hope this is a useful meta tag.

Hurray!!! This is my
100th posting!!!

Google Search Update

Two cool new update from Google, especially from search algorithm,

1. Google Video Search Update
2. Google Image Search Update

Let me explain about these two update in this posting below,

Google Video Search Update:

Now, Google-Video is more than a search engine, they have changed the look and feel similar to the Google image search. If you search for any video in Google video search and click on the link, a frame will open at the top and inside the frame you can see the actual page with the video embedded in it (this may be a YouTube or a Google video). Now why are you waiting for, try and find yourself the new update from Google.

Google Image Search Update:

This is something interesting, where you can set a filter in Google image search result. Any guess what the filter is? Mm… I think it is tough to find, let me reveal the secret, the filter is "face only". Confused? Let me explain, open images.google.com and click on "Advanced Image Search" and select the radio button to "faces". Now search for your term and you can get results that contain faces. I think is a cool update! Try this at your end.

Update

Apart from the update, Google is in the process of purchasing many companies and some of the recent purchases are,

"Zenter" a company that create software for online slide presentations

"Grand Central" which helps to organize your phone numbers to one number

Hope this list will increase :)
All the best, Google!

Google Docs and Spreadsheet Update

One more update from our Google :)

Take a look at the new style of Google docs and spreadsheet!

This time the developers did some tweaking in Google docs and spread sheet,

1. New design
2. Easy navigation
3. Folder Option
4. Drag and drop option to delete or to move a file

They are still working and will add more good features to it.

I think we can see some change in our Gmail and other products of Google.

Started their tweaking with Google Analytics and now they are with Google Docs, believe me in few months of time, all the Google products will get a new look.

See you on the next post, take care all...

Street View in Google Maps Secret Revealed

I got the answer for my previous posting.

Look at the below images, Google has sent a van in most of the streets of US with 360 degree camera with laser sensor which will automatically takes pictures at regular interval in distance. This is how Google has achieved the "street view" in Google Maps. But some of them still complaint about the new idea of Google and many of them appreciate it.
