Matt Cutts Reply and Google Recommendation for 503 Service Unavailable

I got a reply from Google’s Matt Cutts for one of my questions regarding Google Reader, which I posted in his blog. This is the second reply that I am getting from him. Check the screenshot below. He is also interested to have a filter system to filter feeds with some restrictions in Google Reader.

503 Service Unavailable – Recommended by Google

There is a discussion going on in SE Round Table regarding the long down-time for a website, as per the discussion, please use "503 Server Response" to tell Google Bot that your website not completely down and will be available after some time, even you can specify an approximate time, so that Google Bot can revisit your website after the specified time.

Look for the discussion at SE Round Table here!

Quite interesting feature from Google, isn’t?

Google Webmaster Tool - Crawl Rate Update

This is one of the best tools from Google; using this tool we can track some of the website's activities like, "top queries", "crawling rate", "index details", "links details" and much more.

These facilities are available from the day they launched this tool, but what is actually new in this? Before I explain, take a look at below screenshot of my Google’s Webmaster Tool admin page.

Under "Tools" menu we have an option "Set Crawl Rate", here you can actually see the Google bots activity. It will show you two main things,

1. Googlebot activity in the last 90 days
2. Your current speed

1. The activity report they will show the details of, number of pages crawled, number of kilobytes downloaded and time spent downloading a page.

The Update Is:

2. In the speed section, you will actually have three options to select your website's crawl rate by Googlebot. Usually, the "Faster" option will be in disabled mode and no one can activate it, unless if Google feels that the crawl rate is very low for your website, they will automatically enable it as shown above. The faster crawl rate will automatically expire after 90 days from the day it was activated.

In the screenshot you can actually see the note from Google, stated just below "Faster".

Does anyone experience the same situation? Please comment.

Google Acquires Jaiku - Activity and Presence Sharing Website

One more acquisition from Google, Jaiku, it is an activity and presence sharing website which works on both mobile and web. People can easily find and interact with their friends’ no-matter where they are, they can easily reach them either through mobile or through website. They provide a widget for mobiles through which they can easily interact with their friends. Also there is a mobile version of the website, through which we can share with our friends. This is also called, micro-blogging website.

Currently Jaiku is not open to register for a new account, click here to send a request to the administrator for a Jaiku invitation code.

There is a huge plan from Google with the recent acquisition and you can see the result before this Christmas. I will not let the secret out. ;)
