Google Friends News Letter

I wanted to share some of the interesting and latest topic from the Google Friends news letter. I am getting this letter frequently from a team where they workout all the new happenings in Google and send it to the subscribed e-mail ids.

Here are the lists of updates,

Google Earth Update:

KLM and XML search in Google earth. What is KLM and XML files mean in Google earth? These are the files through which people can submit their overlays to enhance the imaginary earth view.

Gmail – Open to all:

WOW! This is a great update. Non-Gmail users, go ahead and give a try for the Gmail. I believe this is one of the Ads free (less ads) when comparing to other e-mail providers. Also, the ads appearing will not disturb or interrupt us in anyway.

Please note; there is a rumor saying that "Google is reading our e-mail". This is not happening at-all.

Orkut Update:

Now! Share and enjoy video links through Google's Orkut. Hereafter no need to send emails to a list of contacts about your online video, just add the video it to your Orkut and your friends can view it through your profile.

Windows Google Map:

You can now use Google map in your windows mobile also. And now Google maps for mobile is available for more than 300 models, so download your application now and get traffic details and other benefits from Google maps.
Now, point your windows browser to:

1. Falling leaves removed. This is a sad update, but I wanted to remove it, because it made my blog from loading fast.

2. Updated my blog to New Blogger. Many times I ignored it, but today wanted to give a go. After updating it, only the nav bar created a problem, but now it was solved.

Happy weekend!

Two Cool Google Updates with Screenshots

1. See the below screenshot, this was taken from MS Outlook Inbox. I have subscribed for Google Alerts for the keyword "Google updates". In the below displayed alert, I got a link for KBC. Why does this happen? In which way KBC related to my keyword? Anyone try to answer this!

2. If the above is not a good update from Google, here, take a look at the below screenshot, it was taken from
Google Matt's blog. He has replied to one of my comments to his blog. Thanks Matt :)

The red box is my comment and the green box is Matt's comment for my posting. Thanks again Matt.

Google Site-links Updates

What is Google site-links?

Take a look at the below screen shot, you can see a list of URLs from the same website. This kind of listings in the SERP (Search Engine Result Page) is called site-links.

How useful is this?

With this, we can find all the useful section of the particular website even without viewing the website online. This saves our time. Google always take much effort to save our time in all possible ways.

How can I get site-links listed for my website?

For now it is an automated process from Google, but they have planned to make this as manual process after doing some modification in their algorithm.

Will the site-links appear for all the websites that is listed first in the SERPs?

No. As the process is automated now, they are showing site-links only for popular websites, also they are showing this for websites from which they crawl the pages effectively.

Well, when they are making this (site-links) live for all the websites?

This is not defined clearly by Google for now, but they are in the process of making it live for all the websites that is listed on #1 position.

Is this a good effort by Google?

I say, yes! Others post your valuable comments.

Google LINKS Update in Site Map Tool

What's next in Google?

Recently Google has started to update many things in their algorithm, infrastructure and many other items. As
Matt said in his blog, regular updates are happening in Google. The previous year 2006, is little bit dull in Google update, but this year 2007, they have started with PR update and many other update like,

Google Reader Update
Google Personalized Home Page New Feeds Update
Google Mini Update
Google Notepad Update
Google Earth Update, many more...
and currently, the
Google Webmaster tool (also called sitemap tool) Update.

What's New in Sitemap Tool?

The regular user of sitemap tool will notice a new tag in the top navigation menu. That's right the 3rd tab "Links", refer the below image.

Here you can see all the
internal and external links to that website. Check on the external links column and find external listings for the website.

Research

I did some query search in Google and compared it with the Google webmaster link tool. It gave me different results. I am really confused! Only Google can answer my question.

The question is…

I did a search in Google with link: query and I got 5 back-links for my website and if I check the link tab in Google webmaster tool, I can see more than 300 links for my website. Why this deviation?

I think Google will soon give an answer for this question :)

Anyway this is a nice update for all of them who were using Google webmaster tool.

Google Bombing Eliminated – Update

It took me some time to publish the next post in my blog as my work load went over :(

For many of them this information will be little bit old, but I wanted to post an article about this on my blog as it is one of the hottest topics from our great Google!

Yes, you are correct! It is all about
Google Bombing!!

What is Google Bombing?

To know about this, I want to share some history of Google and its search engine ranking algorithm.

Previously, Google ranked the websites, by considering the keyword popularity and density. Later they modified their infrastructure and started giving importance to the inbound links and their anchor text. At that time, many webmasters came to know about this Google internal ranking algorithm and started to hack Google. They started to build enormous numbers of back-links (with their targeted keyword as anchor text) to a website / webpage to increase its rankings and all of them got succeeded in their trial.

This is how the Google Bombing started by adding back-links to a website or webpage to increase this popularity in Google. The interesting case was the keyword "failure", for which George Bush White House page will come on top in Google SERP.

So, what happened now?

Google recently updated their ranking algorithm to eliminate this bug (Google Bombing). But it was not actually a bug, but it was made as a bug by the spammers.

So, spammers, you can't go with this technique anymore, try to hack Google again, but you can't succeed.

Great update from Google and hereafter only organic link building will help in ranking the website, forget about Google Bombing!

Update:

This algorithm update won't reflect in all the datacenters, it will take some time to synchronize in all the datacenters.
